It's been almost a year since my husband and I honeymooned in Eureka Springs, and I can honestly say that I haven't eaten anything since then that could compare to the mind-blowingly delicious meal we had at The Oasis. We have been craving it ever since. This. Place. Is. Amazing. **The restaurant is hidden away right in the heart of Eureka- tucked into the stair/alleyway between two buildings. Inside it looks like it's in an old apartment that's been renovated. It's small but they pack a huge experience into this tiny space, so don't let the humble atmosphere fool you. These people know what they're doing and the food is incredible. If I lived nearby I would probably eat there twice a week. My mouth waters just thinking about it! Nancy, who served us, was so nice and interesting to talk to, so that just made the experience even better. (Hello Nancy- we're the couple from Norman, OK!) We felt like we were having brunch at an old friend's house. The price was amazing too- I don't remember exactly but I know we were surprised that it was so so cheap. The food at The Oasis alone is worth the drive out to Eureka Springs. If you get within 200 miles of this place YOU HAVE TO GO. Check their hours and days of operation first, though, and plan accordingly. ****** Reading some of the other reviews, it looks like The Oasis has moved to a larger venue. We can't wait to see the new digs next time we visit!!! Congrats to The Oasis family!

Four star food. One star service. I don't need an explanation of how tips are divided with the staff, that you are working nine days in a row, or other details about working. I work hard too. Just give me the food with an exasperated sigh every time I ask for the drink which was clearly forgotten.

Let me start off with the positive, the salsa was great. Outstanding. Unfortunately the salsa came with generic Tostitos styled round chips. My dish was good, if not outstanding. There were two items on the specialty menu that sounded great, but they were unfortunately out of and I am let down that I didn't get to try them. Maybe next time. Be aware that you need to have cash, and definitely go for the refillable salsa. I could drink that stuff.

The food was light, fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere:"chill". Service was good and the price reasonable. I'd recommend Oasis as your first food stop in Eureka Spring to enjoy excellent "Ark-Mex".

Very good. Chicken blue cheese enchilada was delicious. Bison and spinach enchilada was very flavorful. Friendly and (appropriately) engaging service. Vegan beans on the side needed a bit of salt, but better that than the other way around. Fresh salsa verde and chips were a nice start. Cash only.

Traveler review: tiny place down the stairs between buildings. Find it! You'll know you're close when the street starts to smell good. Practically meatless menu with meat specials on the board. Mostly corn tortillas with burritos on whole wheat. Don't expect it to be like any Mexican food you've had before and it'll be a fun new experience...not life altering, but fun and healthy food in AR. It's like a Mexican food joint and your fav vegetarian place back home smashed into each other. A beautiful veg-mex baby!

I will admit that I was skeptical when the place was empty when we got there at noon on a Saturday, and the staff was fairly unprofessional. But then the place totally grew on me. It is uniquely Eureka -- hippy and a bit flippant in a great way. My little hipster sister was in heaven. She was looking around at all the stuff on the walls and commenting that the boushy people one table over "didn't get it." They were whining because the place only takes cash and has no beef. She was right because they just did not get it. If you like Chevy's, this isn't going to be your place. You have to embrace it for its hole-in-the-wall goodness! The menu was unique with items like a goat cheese and spinach quesadilla and tofu. They have chicken but no beef or pork. My sister and I both got enchiladas. They were very tasty. They were covered in yummy melted cheese instead of enchilada sauce. It was good, just not what I was expecting. The enchiladas came with beans and rice. At most Mexican places, I don't even touch the beans and rice that they plop on the side, because usually the rice is overcooked and/or dry and the beans are just blah. But here the beans and rice were great. They were well cooked and flavorful. I scraped my plate clean. By the end of the meal, I think I finally "got" this place.

Some of the food here was pretty good. A plate of chipotle chicken enchiladas was really enjoyed, but an order of chicken tacos was just okay. The chips with chips and salsa were not very good ...the salsa was tasty, though. They were out of a lot of items, tea was not fresh at all, and they had one person running the whole place...that one person was doing the cooking, cleaning, and table waiting. I felt so bad for them, but there is no way you can give decent service with one person running the whole operation. People were getting up to get their own drink refills and extra chips. Maybe during busy season, they will get some more help and things will improve some. The interior is really old and dingy, but if the food is good enough, that can all add to that character of a place. The food here doesn't rise to that level. A light lunch for two ran 24 dollars. I can only give this place two stars.

CASH ONLY!!!! I learned this the hard way, but at least there is an ATM around the corner if you're stuck. This place is definitely earthy and I enjoyed listening to the banter of the locals. It is very small and cozy, but I like that. Since it was my first time to Oasis... and since I always rate my initial visit to a mexican restaurant by their cheese enchilladas; well, that's what I ordered. The meal consisted of two cheese enchiliadas with a side of pinto beans and a baby greens salad with a balasmic vinagrette. It was tasty, but very different from Tex-Mex. The tortillas were filled with a huge amount of cheese and fried with a few onions on top and no sauce. (Thank goodness I don't count fat grams while on vaca!) However, the green chile salsa served when you arrived is superb and made a great topper. Traditional chips and salsa are offered when you arrive, but when I opted to have corn tortillas instead of the fried chips, I got a very strange look and the waitress was speechless. After a long pause, I was finally told they are both made of corn tortillas! After bargaining on the price, I got my two corn tortillas and left the fried chips for the next person who's interested in all that fat. Overall, the meal was good, but not what this Tex-Mex gal was looking for. The staff and owner are very friendly and I will return on my next visit to beautiful Eureka to try another "Ark-Mex" dish.

Oasis is the best place in town for breakfast/brunch. It's a great example of a little hole in the wall restaurant with excellent food. It's awesome to be able to watch the cook dancing around and having a good time while making your food. This is truly a Eureka Springs treasure. Food is great and seating is limited so come early, and bring cash because they don't take plastic. With a ton of excellent restaurants all over this town, if I spend 3 days in Eureka Springs I will be eating 3 breakfasts at Oasis. It's that good.

Heard it was worth going to, we were not disappointed. The wife and I went as kind of a late lunch, tide you over before dinner kinda deal. We shared the chips and salsa (incredible verde salsa, chips are store bought and fine by me), and the daily special barbacoa enchiladas. Food had great flavor all around. This plate included two enchiladas, pinto beans and nice little vinaigrette salad. Service was great, how could it not be in a place this small though. Everyone is right there in about a 12x10 area. The ladies that were working were nice and fun to talk to. I would love to go back for dinner some night.

I was visiting my parents for the holidays and we were looking for new restaurants to try. Boy, I'm sure glad I found Oasis on yelp! The food is deemed as "Ark-Mex" and the menu offers a good amount of meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. I had the Spring Street burrito and it was delicious! My dad had the Barbacoa enchiladas and my mom had a Chicken Frito Pie. We all enjoyed everything and will definitely be back once I visit again!

We landed in this place since a native Eurekan friend told me "eat ark-mex brunch at the Oasis, my absolute favorite" when I asked her for things to do and places to eat in her hometown. So here I was in the middle of a Harley Davidson invasion trying to locate the place. I guess it wasn't easy because the noise was too distracting, or maybe the fact that the entrance is half way a stairwell. Good thing the street jewelry seller overheard our conversation and pointed us in the right direction. We entered the less than 8 tables place (maybe it has more, but it is tiny! so tiny it made me think of Al's breakfast in Minneapolis -Google it if you haven't been there it's so tiny it makes it great!-). Funny thing, we were told the morning was really busy and there was no cream, milk or eggs @ about 11:30 am. Too bad for a brunch seeker like me, so after initial disappointment (I didn't even wanted salsa and chips to begin with) my partner asked for salsa and chips to entertain our bellies while we looked at the menu. The salsa is/was AWESOME and we fought over the chips. As we debated if we needed more salsa somebody actually just walked in to pick two bottles of salsa, which made us think about it too. We ended up ordering from the menu, tacos, burritos and such, which were served with generous fresh salads. Yum! Still today I'm still trying to figure out what ark-mex is, but my meal was great and Oasis offers a great fare for vegetarians which always helps since partner hasn't eaten meat for a decade now. Worth a visit. It's fresh, tasty, homemade, groovy & cheap!

I hesitate to help this hidden gem explode into the main stream of Eureka tourist traffic. However, it is Wonderful! My wife and I both had enchiladas, I had the shredded beef and she had the portobello and spinach. Best I have ever had! Hers was also to die for. Don't miss the chips(ball park quality) and salsa. Truly killer, although heavy on the garlic. They do charge for them. Perhaps they should increase other prices, just a thought. They do not take plastic and the place is tiny, but don't let that discourage you. Look down all those tiny alleys till you find it. You will not be disappointed.

Wow, what an awesome experience. I had the best weekend in ES and Oasis was a wonderful beginning to my weekend trip. They have the best salsa that I have ever had in my life. I had one of the chicken enchiladas and you could tell that it was prepared with fresh ingredients. Also a vegetarian's paradise. I look forward to returning to the area. Tex-Mex move over, Ark-Mex has a special place in my healthy heart!

True to its name, the Oasis, is a fertile spot in the food desert that is the state of Arkansas. And even though Eureka Springs has significantly better offerings than you will typically find in Arkansas, the Oasis still stands above most every other restaurant. Serving what they affectionately refer to as Ark-Mex breakfast and brunch, they offer a variety of plates which will certainly fill your empty tummy. It may sound strange but imaging combining your favorite American breakfast joint with your favorite Mexican joint - Bam! Oasis is born. Their salsa verde is fantastic and they make some killer enchiladas. Overall the menu offers many items and they are willing to work with you if you want something a little different. Not healthy food necessarily but great. The food here is consistently good and the people friendly. They space can be tight and waiting is not uncommon during the busier times in Eureka. It can be a bit difficult to find as it is essentially in between two buildings and down a flight of stairs. Making the name all the more appropriate.

Great little local joint with character (nothing chain-like here) and good food. I'd recommend the barbacoa enchilada if it's on special. If you like Applebee's, you probably won't like this place. If you love good food and the small business experience, go here.

Oasis is a cozy and inviting little Ark-Mex cafe with incredibly delicious food, perfect my vegetarian preferences and my husband's meat-eating tastes. The Sweany burrito was to die for and I was told the barbacoa and the pork mole enchiladas were fantastic! We will definitely be back!

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! I haven't been in a very very long time but I would love the chance to make it back again one day. When i lived in Missouri my mom, a friend and I used to take nice day trips to Eureka Springs. I'm pretty sure the real excuse to go there was for lunch at the Oasis!

Tiny hole in the wall restaurant that offered a variety of tasty mexican cuisine. Especially good if you like being a little adventurous and up for trying something new, as most everything we saw and tried was good but not anything we would have ventured to try on an ordinary day. Would definitely recommend and will likely be back!

When in Eureka Springs it is smart to do as locals do. Locals do eat at Oasis. This place is pretty much guaranteed to be like no place you have already been. The best description is something like this, HOLE IN THE WALL DIVE SERVES SURPRISINGLY GREAT FRESH HEALTHY FOOD. The groceries are bought fresh every morning from Hart's Grocery. Nothing sits around here long when it comes to the ingredients. The super fresh menu includes all original creations, no cookie cutter anything here. This is the anti-chain experience and your tastebuds will thank you for finding it . I've tried many selections over the years but I always come back for another Lyle's Special. Served topped with Oasis salad, I also get chips and salsa. This is a hearty concoction served on a corn tortilla layered up with great veggies, and cheese then broiled and topped with fresh salad. Friends, this is seriously good food. Come expecting Oasis to be busy and allow an hour for lunch. Chill out checking out the uniquely Eureka Springs decor....it is fascinating. Why only 4 stars? I get disappointed sometimes over the wait, Oasis needs more seating.

Down a wooden staircase in an alley on Spring Street, you will find this gem. I've never had Mexican food like this anywhere else. They call it ArkMex. It's definitely its own thing. The Spring Street burrito was great! It was eaten along the shore of Beaver Lake on June 9th. If you're in Eureka Springs, it's a must have...

We stumbled upon this place, halfway based on Yelp, and halfway based on my mom's suggestion. It's literally a hole in the wall down a back stairway, nestled in Eureka Springs. The inside isn't much to look at. The place is filled with all kinds of concert posters, memorabilia, and other items, which could be described as "hippy." There are very few tables inside, and the seating area is tiny. There were two ladies present who own and operate the restaurant. The restaurant offers all kinds of vegetarian food, the type that you would normally never encounter in the Midwest, especially in a small town. There are several specials offered and in no way would any vegetarian ever become bored with the menu at Oasis. We were served some fresh chips and salsa to start. It was a green salsa with lots of garlic. I could have easily filled up on just chips and salsa. For my entrée, I opted for the curried portaballea mushroom and couscous enchiladas. They were definitely a different take on Mexican, but very delicious. The entrée was served with a side salad and beans. The beans were pintos and not the yucky refried type you get at most other places. My mom and girlfriend also had other veggie dishes, which I also tried. They were all good. I'll definitely return here when I am in Eureka Springs. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun. Unfortunately, Oasis doesn't have a liquor license, but they do offer a number of freshly brewed teas.

In response to a message from the restaurant, it appears Oasis is NOT closed, so I wanted to post this in reply: My husband & I looked where we understood the restaurant to be and didn't find anything, and the local health food store told us that the best vegan-friendly option in town had closed recently. We put two and two together and understood it had closed. My apologies, and hopefully we'll get back down there again sometime and have a chance to try it out.

The food here is really good and fresh! The people are nice too. The place itself is small, but that is part of the experience. Also, this may seem weird, but go to the restroom while there; it's...interesting.

Excellent! Great vegan friendly options. Small cafe held together by fresh wholesome food, kind though sometimes overworked staff and a funky knack for Eureka art and cool event posters. Solid food for a modest price. To another 15 years of me loving to eat here: cheers to The Oasis!

This was our first visit to Oasis, and it started out kinda shaky. The waitress walked outside for a cigarette before seating us at a table, but as we walked in she yelled out where we could sit. She then returned from her break and walked past our table probably 10 times before asking for our drink order plus she left a dirty rag on our table. Finally things started to get better once she actually paid attention to us. She suggested I get any of the specials and their chips and salsa. The chips and salsa came to the table first and it was amazing! I would have been satisfied just eating the salsa! But then the spinach and portobello enchilada was delivered and all frustration I had with the waitress was worth it. The food was 5 star worthy, but due to the rocky start I gave it 4 stars.

I used yelp to find this place, the 5 people that ate here gave it high reviews. It's a dive down between two buildings, you have to look for it. It smells really old, and is very small place. The waitress was nice. I ordered the roasted chicken enchilada, the waitress said it was her favorite and she ate it for a very long time herself. The food taste like vinegar, the salad, the beans, the enchilada, well, I had a very hard time swallowing. This was the only bite I could take without barfing.. I husband ate every bite, same order, but he eats because it cost money. NOT ME. The locals said it was good also, but sorry, I just couldn't do it. One local said you just have to know what to order, I was so grossed out, I almost got sick. I do not reccommend this place whatsoever. I'm a picky eater, I expect good, I'm a cook at home, and love cooking, I have eaten out many many places. I'm sorry, but this place is a waste of your money. Go to Gaden Cafe, or Grand Hotel and spend a litlle more money and get something good. !!!!

The dining room is smaller than small, only 10 tables altogether, and the decor is definitely 'eclectic'. The food is nothing short of fantastic. They describe their menu as Ark Mex, and whether you're a vegetarian or not, it's as varied as it is excellent. I had the best Frito pie I've ever had, and my mate had the Mexican pizza. It seems everything on the menu comes with a salad and their own house dressing, which is fine with me. All the ingredients were fresh, and the only complaint I can think of was the service was a bit slow. The food is definitely worth the wait. You gotta try this place to believe it. Just don't go expecting fast food.

When others say that the staff is unprofessional, it is an understatement. We got seated no problem, but apparently they decided to close a half hour early (right after we walked in). They put a sign out, but people kept trying to come in since the hours said they should still be open. The staff rudely turned away 4 groups while we were eating, all of which they continually "made fun of " for minutes afterward right in front of other customers. Comments like, "how stupid can you be that you can't read a closed sign" and "If they don't wanna come back tomorrow, then we don't need their business." All of this was apparently more than fun for the staff, but the continual banter made it impossible for us to carry on a conversation. Towards the end of the meal they were taking inventory from a closet on one side of our table to the kitchen yelling things back and forth about how much of one thing they had and what was "bad" and not. We didn't even want to finish eating. When we got the bill I couldn't leave fast enough, we left our plates half full. I even paid for a drink I didn't order instead of asking the waitress to remove it from the bill because it wasn't worth another 5 minutes around the yelling staff. I should have read other reviews more carefully, they all describe the same unprofessional staff except they leave out that they are borderline on dirty, and incompetent. If this place survives, it will be because enough locals eat there. Anyone that can't chime in on ripping on visitors won't enjoy this dining experience.

Small, inexpensive, but tasty "Ark-Mex" joint tucked away down a flight of stairs from Spring Street, decorated with old concert posters, newspaper articles, and the like. The chips and green salsa make for a good start and the homemade iced tea was perfectly brewed. They had some interesting enchilada specials - we had a couple of them: pork mole and chicken, jalapeno, blue cheese. Both were worth the very affordable price. Make sure you check out the men's room - gives new meaning to sitting on the pedestal.

The Oasis is the most eccentric restaurant I have ever been to. The walls are covered in posters that feature a unique Eureka Springs hippie art nouveau. The place has a really humble atmosphere that adds to it's charm, but it is not for the claustrophobic, or the unadventurous. The food on the other hand, is not exceptionally challenging. It has a really fresh quality about it, and is largely vegetarian. I usually don't eat places with a "largely vegetarian" menu, but the Oasis is an exception is every conceivable way. I have dinned in this restaurant many times over the years and I have found it very consistent. I have had the Mexican pizza many times, and the green salsa is exceptional. Once, while I was dining here, a group of locals were telling stories about the local 'Passion Play.' Highlights included "peeping Jesus" (a man who played Jesus who was a local peeping tom), and another actor so drunk that he fell off his cross, during the Crucifixion scene.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
